A grinder setting is a number.
A grind sample tells you more.
The same dial position can produce different results on different grinders. CPA helps you compare the ground coffee itself, giving your team a measurable reference alongside the brewing recipe and tasting notes.
What does the CPA do?
CPA is an optical measuring instrument. It analyses a small sample of ground coffee and sends the result wirelessly to a smartphone, tablet or computer. This lets you investigate the size distribution of coffee particles without relying on a visual assessment alone.
Particle distribution
See how the sample is distributed across particle sizes. Compare profiles when you adjust a grinder or test a different set of burrs.
Surface area
Use the reported particle surface area as another reference when investigating how a grind relates to your brewing results.
Sample comparison
Build a repeatable measurement routine for grinder checks, recipe development and quality control across your team.
From sample to useful decision.
01 · Take a sample
Collect a small amount of freshly ground coffee. Keep your sampling method consistent so comparisons remain useful.
02 · Measure
Place the sample on the measuring field and run the optical analysis. View the result on your connected device.
03 · Compare and brew
Compare the result with your reference, adjust the grinder where needed and validate the change by brewing and tasting.
Who is it for?
Coffee roasters
Develop grind references for your coffees and support customers with a shared measurement method.
Coffee bars and multi-site teams
Investigate differences between grinders and help teams work towards a more consistent grind profile.
Equipment specialists
Compare samples when evaluating burrs, grinder adjustments or changes in grinding performance.
Use measurement with taste.
CPA measures ground coffee. It does not measure dissolved solids, extraction yield or flavour in the cup. Combine particle analysis with your recipe, brew time, sensory evaluation and, where relevant, a refractometer.
A change in particle distribution can guide an investigation; it does not by itself establish burr wear or guarantee a better extraction.
