Coffee has a long history touching many people, countries and cultures. But even though coffee has been around for so long and many, many of us enjoy a cup of magic on a daily basis, coffee as an agricultural crop is often seen as “the orphan crop”; The crop that gets the least attention when it comes to science, research, sustainable development, investments and overall farmer organisations like unions. 

In traditional coffee trade, coffee producers often don’t receive enough value for their product to cover the cost of production nor for a living income. Within this traditional model it is by definition not possible to produce for quality, simply because a farmer will do whatever it takes to reduce costs, time and effort. Unfortunately more than 90% of coffee world wide is based on this Degenerative traditional trading model, bad for farmers, bad for the farm, and for nature due to short cuts of biocide usage.

By now we know, by paying more, collaborating more, integrating premiums for quality, sharing knowledge and by including farmers in international network where possible, they start producing a different type of quality, one with more consistent and higher cupping scores, a coffee that you eventually will get to enjoy.
